Commissioned by Japanese cosmetics manufacturer Pedal & Senza, the MO Lamp originates from an investigation into montmorillonite, a soft, mineral-dense clay formed through the alteration of volcanic ash.

While typically processed as a fine powder for cosmetics, the material is retained here in its raw, geological state. We cut solid blocks of the layered clay to house an integrated lighting unit, balancing the organic mass with a precision-milled aluminum shade and articulated arm.

When illuminated, the directional light glances across the unrefined stone-like surface, bringing the subtle stratifications and tactile geometry of the material into view.
