Less Than Instrument is a lighting work made from expanded metal, commonly used in construction. LED chips and a hand-applied copper foil circuit are integrated into the mesh's three-dimensional structure.

From a distance, the illuminated mesh appears as a haze. Up close, its structure becomes legible. Its appearance shifts with the viewing angle, leaving the source of the light difficult to locate.

Light becomes perceptible through what it illuminates. Starting from this relationship, we sought a form of lighting whose identity would remain somewhere between light and fixture. The mesh, the illuminated wall, and the space between them together give the work its presence.
