The curve mirror is a uniquely Japanese cultural object. Although it's an industrial product, it reflects the quiet connection between life and death that exists in our everyday lives. Through its distorted reflection, it shows us a glimpse of the near future. Yet its effectiveness in preventing accidents remains uncertain. Perhaps it is less a reliable tool for safety than a transparent monument to our collective faith in it.
Imagining myself as a person living in Japan after the end of civilization, I created a handmade version of the curve mirror. If it no longer reflects the roads and cars we once knew, what kind of landscape would appear in it instead?
